Library Collections

The oldest and largest university library in Kerala,
serving generations of learners, teachers, and researchers with rich print collections,
rare archives, special studies, and expanding digital resources.

The library maintains a rich and diverse collection of print and digital resources to support teaching, learning, and research. The collection includes approximately 3,60,000 books covering a wide range of academic disciplines and subject areas.

  • Journals and Magazines
    The library subscribes to around 250 printed journals and periodicals covering various academic disciplines. In addition to current issues, the library maintains bound volumes of journals and periodicals, preserving earlier issues and providing continuous access to past research publications for reference and study. Bound volumes of more than 1000 journal titles take pride of place in the collection.

  • Newspaper Collection
    The library preserves an important newspaper collection dating back to 1950, providing valuable historical and archival information for researchers, scholars, and students interested in studying social, political, and cultural developments over time.

  • Reference Collection
    The reference section contains important sources, such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, atlases, yearbooks, and directories, available for consultation within the library.

  • E-Resources
    The library provides access to a wide range of electronic resources through the national consortia One Nation One Subscription (ONOS), and we also subscribe to various e-journals and databases. These platforms provide access to numerous e-journals, e-books, and academic databases to support research and scholarly communication.

  • Theses and Dissertations
    The library maintains a dedicated collection of approximately 10,000 PhD theses from the University of Kerala, available for reference by research scholars and students.

  • Rare Books and Digital Archives
    The library preserves a valuable collection of rare and old books and documents, many of which have been digitised. The digital repository contains over 19 lakhs full-text searchable pages of rare and historical materials for research and academic use.

  • Kerala Reference Collection
    A specialised Kerala Reference Section houses books and materials related to the history, culture, language, literature, religion, politics, economics, and sociology of Kerala, supporting scholars engaged in Kerala studies.

  • UN & World Bank Publications
    The Kerala University Library serves as the sole depository for UN and World Bank publications in Kerala. Additionally, publications from other UN organs are also received in this section. These documents are available for reference purposes only. Updates from the UN received online through the internet are accessible to members.

  • Services for Visually Challenged Users
    The library provides special resources to support visually challenged users and ensure inclusive access to information. Accessible digital libraries such as Bookshare and Sugamya Pustakalaya offer books in accessible formats. Assistive technology support through Kibo helps users access digital content independently.

  • Civil Service and Competitive Examination Collection
    The library also maintains a dedicated collection of books and study materials to support Civil Services and other competitive examination preparation, providing useful resources for aspirants preparing for national and state-level examinations.

  • Previous Question Papers
    The library maintains a collection of previous university examination question papers, which serve as a valuable resource for students preparing for examinations and competitive tests, as well as for research.
