Use of Library - General Rules
The oldest and largest university library in Kerala,
serving generations of learners, teachers, and researchers with rich print collections,
rare archives, special studies, and expanding digital resources.
- Silence must be observed inside the library. Loud talking is prohibited in all areas. As the Library is a place for individual study and research, members should maintain a quiet and conducive atmosphere. Smoking is not permitted within the library building and its premises.
- Mobile phone use is permitted as long as it does not cause disruption to other readers or affect the working environment of the library.
- Photography and videography are generally prohibited inside the library. Special permission may be obtained for such activities.
- Books should be handled with care. Marking on books is prohibited and may lead to the cancellation of membership privileges.
- Members have the privilege of direct access to the shelves in the stack rooms and reading hall. Books should be maintained in their classified arrangement. Members should not reshelve books to avoid misplacement. Books should be left on the nearest table if they are not to be reshelved.
- For better use of the Library, members can approach the library professional at the desk for assistance.
- Vehicles should not be parked in front of the library building. Cycles, scooters, motorcycles, and cars should be parked in the designated stand/space provided on the eastern side of the building.
- Members are not allowed to reserve seats in the reading halls for themselves or others. Documents cannot be left unattended for long periods. The Library staff may remove unattended books and materials and issue them to other members.
- Any infringement of these rules may lead to the forfeiture of the privilege of admission to and borrowing books from the library.
